Michael K. Nelson was born in the Southern Oregon Hills and managed a lumberyard early on in his carreer. Around 1988 he started to gain wood reclamation experience and soon became knowledgeable in the business of safely pulling buildings over. He part owned Timberline Recycling in Medford, OR. and reclaimed mostly closed down lumber mill buildings. Hence the name MILLWOOD. The reclamation of the Camino Lumber Mill in California brought Mike to El Dorado County where he met Saskia de Vries. Saskia was a health care professional with a nack for crafts and home improvements. She already lived in the area for awhile and is of Dutch heritage.
Mike became interested in not only recycling and selling this beautiful wood, but also utilize it for furniture. He traveled to Missouri for his education. His teacher Ray Robirds is a very gifted craftsman and soon Mike's skill and creativity were unleashed and taking off.
2 creative minds combined initiated the birth of Millwood Furnishings and Reclamation. Before long the business grew out of it's home / carport stage and moved into it's current location. Mike passed on his furniture making skills to Saskia which allowed Millwood to offer an even greater diversity in styles.
