Log and Timber Milling

What does one do when one doesn't have a tree lifitng crane and still needs to get the tree to the woodmiser ? Mike shows off his arms and answers : 'Myrtle and Mabel' ! Truth is that through his extensive reclamation experience, Mike has learned to use leverage in very clever ways. Truck, trailer, pulley's and cables get the log onto the trailer and to the lumberyard, a lift with the forklift gets the log onto the woodmiser and that's all that's neccessary to get the show on the road and use nature's bounty to produce a rustic look anywhere in or outside the house.

Inside the log are the growthrings. The way the log is cut determines how the grain of each individual board will look on the surface. There is 'flat grain', 'vertical grain', and 'mixed grain'. As the tree ages, the growth rings become narrower and narrower. The finer the grain, the older the tree, the stronger the wood fibers.
